Half the counters I have been to want cash and the machine in the corner charges you for the privilege. Is that a rule somewhere or just how it shook out? Asking, not accusing.

cash only and a $4 machine in the corner is a business model, not an accident

The machine fee goes in my spreadsheet as part of the price, because it is. Adds up faster than people think.
